Hello!

Welcome to my website! I'm Kathryn and I blog about  fusing Vintage and modern Fashion together to create a unique style. I am also passionate about slowing down the fast fashion industry  and hope to encourage others to do likewise through my posts showcasing  my personal style through the vintage and upcycled items that I have sourced.  I have now added a SHOP section to my website where you can purchase lots of sustainable goodies from clothing to china and everything in between! Through my upcycling  posts and crafted items I hope to encourage all of you to be mindful about what you throw away and to see that almost everything can be reused and made fresh and unique again through a little imagination.   I also blog about maintaining a healthy mental attitude through positivity and being mindful of how unique we are as individuals.

Hi again folks,........ well today I'll be continuing discussion on the fascinating subject of having and acquiring PERSONAL STYLE. This is an exploration by VIOLINKIT and is by no means set in stone. These thoughts and ponderings are my own unique opinions and everyone will have their own ideas about what STYLE means to them. I would LOVE to hear in the comments any further thoughts that you may have on this great topic..............

So in my last post  See Here.  I mentioned the idea that PERSONAL STYLE is hugely influenced by the environment that we grow up in. Our background , Childhood , Parents etc all have a deep effect on who we are  and what our style influences will be. By this I mean that the experiences we have and the type of people we are exposed to growing up can have a massive affect on our personal style and whether we have fun with it or take it on as a serious task.

Speaking from my own experiences and growing up in a rural country Town in Ireland where people were shocked if you wore bright pink, it wasn't exactly the kind of place where people encouraged or admired anything that was worn that might be regarded as individual or creative. Locals liked everything to be "Nice" and didn't appreciate any new  style ideas etc.

My own parents were like this so I grew up wanting and longing for colour and pattern but putting up with brown............. in a grey Town. During my late childhood I became very interested and fascinated by old classic movies to such an extent that if there was going to be a "Gem" aired on a particular TV channel I would rather stay in and see it then go out with my friends , such was my passion for them.

I quickly developed an interest in Vintage fashion as a direct result of watching Lauren Bacall. Grace Kelly , Greta Garbo , Liz Taylor etc strut their fashion stuff on the silver screen.......When I left my home town and headed for college in the city my own Personal Style suddenly had the freedom it needed  to express itself and flourish. I left the shackles of fear behind me and learnt that life was meant to be enjoyed and with it the clothing that I wore.

I experimented and sometimes my fashion choices  worked and sometimes they didn't .However  I never regretted a moment of my style journey. I'm still  on that road and  no doubt  will keep changing and evolving as time goes by.

Self Worth, Self Knowledge and Self Esteem are all contributing factors to finding an overall sense of STYLE. Our environment, friends and social background also contribute to finding our particular panache.

Passions and interests eg Music/Art/Fashion/Sport are also big influencers as is the career choices that we make. For example if some of us work in a creative field then we tend to have a colourful and flamboyant sense of style. However those of us that work in more academic/business environments will tend to have a more subdued and conservative fashion style. Therefore style and lifestyle are closely connected and a successful sense of personal style is usually born from developing our style to suit our lifestyle.

What are your interests and passions in life and have they influenced your own personal style? What about the environment you work in,  have you developed a style that identifies with your true self , one that you are comfortable with and happy to be you?

I would truly love to hear all your ideas and opinions in the comments. Looking forward to chatting with you all on this great topic. I will be concluding this discussion in PART 3.....         SEE HERE
