Hello!

Welcome to my website! I'm Kathryn and I blog about  fusing Vintage and modern Fashion together to create a unique style. I am also passionate about slowing down the fast fashion industry  and hope to encourage others to do likewise through my posts showcasing  my personal style through the vintage and upcycled items that I have sourced.  I have now added a SHOP section to my website where you can purchase lots of sustainable goodies from clothing to china and everything in between! Through my upcycling  posts and crafted items I hope to encourage all of you to be mindful about what you throw away and to see that almost everything can be reused and made fresh and unique again through a little imagination.   I also blog about maintaining a healthy mental attitude through positivity and being mindful of how unique we are as individuals.

Seeing Red!

So its getting closer to festive fun time and what better way to celebrate than with lots of festive RED!   If any colour epitomises the Christmas season its got to be this amazing shade. From berry hues to pinky tones theres a red out there to suit every colouring.

This empowering shade has a deep and ancient history. Red was one of the first colours to be used in the Western World in pre-historic times. Iron oxide was used to create cave drawings and later  a more intense red was created. This was achieved by the Romans. They dryed and crushed an insect called Kermes Vermillio thus creating the shade "Vermillion Red".

Red has always been an important colour both in religious and political institutions. It is the preferred colour worn by cardinals in the Catholic church and is the colour most represented by wealth and war.

It single handedly represents the wide range of human emotions across the divide .Love, passion, fertility and courage on one side and danger, aggression and hatred on the other. It is perhaps the most complex and powerful colour that exists, once assiocated with adultery ,prostitution and aristocratic excess it was shunned by the majority in the 18th century.

Red became "fashionable" again with the introduction of synthetic dyes during the mid 19th century and gained a new clientele -the working class.

Now in the 21st century red is worn frequently and with gusto. It represents Christmas, Valentines and is the shade most associated with sex and lust. Provocative and sexy it can equally be powerful and threatening.

Wear it with pride and choose the shade that most suits your personality. From faded poppy shades to fiery flame! Theres a shade for femme fatale and flower in equal measures.

I've put together a few of my own "RED LOOKS" . Yes, Violinkit is fearless when it comes to wearing the "Sinful Shade". Hope you enjoy them!
